How to change a photo's EXIF date

Quick answerDrop JPG photos into NewFileDate, set the capture date you want, and run 'File Date (OS)' mode. You'll get a ZIP where both the file date and the EXIF capture time (DateTimeOriginal) are updated โ€” without uploading your photos anywhere.

Runs in your browser, no install ยท Free

Steps

  1. Drop JPG/JPEG photos into the tool (batch works)
  2. Enter the capture date and time you want
  3. Run 'File Date (OS)' mode
  4. Download and extract the ZIP โ€” both file date and EXIF capture date are updated

What exactly changes

The capture timestamps inside the photo's EXIF metadata (DateTime, DateTimeOriginal, DateTimeDigitized) are rewritten to your chosen time โ€” the same values gallery and photo apps sort by.

Photos with no EXIF record at all (screenshots, messenger downloads) can't get a new capture date, so only their file date changes. You'll see a notice after processing telling you how many were skipped.

Formats other than JPG/JPEG (HEIC, PNG, etc.) only get their file date changed โ€” their EXIF is not edited.

Privacy

Photos are processed in browser memory only โ€” never uploaded. You can edit EXIF data of sensitive photos without them leaving your device.

FAQ

What about photos with no EXIF data?

A capture date can't be created where none exists, so only the file date is changed. After processing you'll see how many of the photos had no EXIF timestamp.

Does it work for HEIC or PNG?

EXIF rewriting is supported for JPG/JPEG only. HEIC and PNG files get their file created/modified date changed, not the internal capture date.
